How to Play
Objective
- The objective of the game is to
conquer your opponents'
Capital StarSystems, while preventing them
from conquering your Capital.
- Players whose
Capital StarSystem are conquered are eliminated.
- Certain Scenarios
have custom Victory Conditions that can
augment or preclude the basic. The Scenario
description will relate these when you set up a game.

(A Capital StarSystem)
StarSystems
- StarSystems
can be owned by a Player, and when they are they appear in the owning Player's
color.
- StarSystems
that are not owned are called "Independent",
and appear as light gray.
- Each StarSystem
has a Value that determines how quickly it
generates Resources.
- StarSystems
can also have Shields that protect them
from attack.
- StarSystems
can also have Scanners that allow them to
see a certain distance into space.
- StarSystem
Scanners can detect the presence of enemy
StarShips, but not the details of these
ships.
- Enemy StarShips
outside your Scanner range are not
visible to you.
- StarSystems
that lie outside of your Scanner range
are still visible, but you cannot see any of their details.
- StarSystems
can be conquered by attacking them with
WarShips or
BattleStations.

(An Independent StarSystem)
Resources
- StarSystems
that are owned by a Player generate Resources
throughout the game.
- The owning Player can spend the
Resources to build
Shields, Scanners, or
StarShips at the
StarSystem.
StarShips
- Prior to starting a game, select 6
StarShip types that you will be able to build
during play.
- You can build
StarShips at any StarSystem
that you own.
- Each StarShip
has an Engine rating that can range from 1
to 20.
- Some StarShip
types have a fixed Engine rating that
you cannot modify.
- Many StarShip
types also possess a "Primary System" that
can range from 1 up.
- The more Engines
and Primary System value you assign to a
StarShip, the more
Resources it costs to build.

(A WarShip with 8 Engines and 4 Weapons)
Enemy StarShips
- You can see enemy
StarShips only when they come within your
Scanner range.
- Enemy StarShips appear as question marks
until they are identified by you.
- Enemy StarShips can be identified by
SpyShips and
InkSpots (see next section.)
